01

How do I start a kitchen remodel?

Start with the problems, not the products: what does not work in your kitchen now, how you cook, and what you want it to do instead. That list plus your budget range is enough for a first conversation. The planning guide walks through it step by step.

02

What does a kitchen remodel cost in Scottsdale?

Published Scottsdale ranges run $15,500 to $25,800 for a minor refresh, $31,000 to $51,700 for a mid-range full remodel and $62,000 to $103,300 for a major or high-end one (a national cost guide, Scottsdale-adjusted, 2026). A countertop and cabinet update costs a fraction of a full remodel with layout changes. Published price ranges for each type of work are gathered on the cost guide, with sources named. The actual price is set after an on-site assessment.

03

How long does a kitchen remodel take?

Fixr puts a cosmetic update at a week or two. Full remodels take longer, mostly because of cabinet lead times: Fixr lists 1 to 2 weeks for stock cabinets, 4 to 8 weeks for semi-custom and longer for custom. The timeline guide breaks the project into stages and shows where the waiting happens.

04

Do I need a permit?

It depends on the work. Electrical, plumbing, gas or structural changes usually need one; cosmetic work like paint or refacing usually does not. The City of Scottsdale sets the rules. The permits guide explains what needs a permit and what inspections to expect.

05

Can I stay home during the remodel?

Many people do. A kitchen remodel is disruptive for the weeks the room is out of service, so households often set up a temporary kitchen somewhere else in the house. What that looks like depends on the scope.

01

Should I reface or replace my cabinets?

Refacing keeps the boxes and replaces doors and drawer fronts, which costs less and creates less mess. Replacement lets you change the layout, add deep drawers and fix worn boxes. The refacing vs replacement guide compares both paths.

02

Quartz or granite for the counters?

Quartz is engineered, uniform and low maintenance. Granite is natural, so every slab is different, and it needs sealing. The quartz vs granite guide compares cost, care and durability side by side.

03

Can I add an island to my kitchen?

Sometimes. It depends on the room's width, the work triangle and how much clear aisle the NKBA planning guidelines call for. An island needs about 42 to 48 inches of clear work aisle on the sides where people cook, so a narrow kitchen may do better with a peninsula. See kitchen islands for the details.
